The Winter Luxury pumpkin is universally loved and regarded as one of the best and sweetest baking pumpkins available. Uniformly shaped with white netted skin it weighs about 8 pounds and it also keeps well into the winter months. It takes about 95 days to grow this heirloom pumpkin from the 1890s. First offered in 1893 by the Johnson & Stokes seed catalog of Philadelphia Winter Luxury was bred by an unknown farmer. Seed experts Ray W. and Edward E. Gill from the Gill Brothers Seed Company in Portland Oregon continued to improve this variety. When made into pie Winter Luxury defeats all competition for smoothness and taste.
