Carex squarrosa grows well in full sun to partial shade. It prefers moist soils in habitats such as wet meadows flood plains or lakesides. Carex squarrosa can tolerate seasonal flooding. Wetland Sedges are an important food source for wetland insects and waterfowl. Narrow-leaved Cattail Sedge actively grows during the spring and fall when soil temperatures are cool. It may also be referred to as Squarrose Sedge.
